Helen (right) studied Art at East Carolina University in North Carolina. She discovered that it isn’t her nature to be a struggling, anguished artist. So, 30 years ago she began a clothing retail business and fed her inner artist as an avid crafter. Eventually she accepted that her purpose is art and opened Trifles Rubber Stamps in Fallston, Maryland. After 17 years, it was time for a life change. She moved to Oregon where her daughter, Rose, and sister, Lorraine, live.

Lorraine (left) studied business at Goucher College in Maryland. For 14 years she managed the family’s real estate investment business. She would declare that she is not artistic and her only creativity was interpreting tax laws. After a period of emotional emptiness, she began to find her spirit again through creativity. It started with painting furniture, gardening, and garden art. Suggested by Helen, she tried SoulCollage, where healing and passion to create came in abundance.

We Say
A Poem by Rose Bosely

We say:
Yes, art is ink and paper, glue and paint and powder and pencils.
We say:
Yes, art is technique, a skill to be taught and to be learnt.
We say:
Yes, art is frustration – frustration, patience, inspiration, and success.
Yes, we say, art is all these things, but it can be more.

It can be voices and laughter, elbows dipped in inkpads and glitter under fingernails, food and color and company. It can be life, lived day after day, a life filled with paper and ink, inspiration and friends.

We say:
Art is something shared.
